Bonnaroo released their annual round-the-clock schedule of Music, Comedy and Arts programming for the 11th installment of the Manchester, TN festival today and the artists with New Orleans ties landed some notable slots. First, there’s The Soul Rebels, who will be the first band to grace the festival’s main stage, playing on Friday afternoon from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Much later on that night a dance party of epic proportions will transpire following a rare performance by The Word when Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk plays from 2:00-3:00 a.m. and Big Freedia the Queen Diva goes real late, bringing the late night azzstravaganza to the farm starting at 3:15 a.m. The following day, Stooges Brass Band will play the Great Taste Lounge and hit at 9:20 p.m. Finally, on Sunday Honey Island Swamp Band will play the Great Taste Lounge from 1:20-2:10 p.m. Read more…
The first headliners for Voodoo Experience 2012 have just been announced and in an interesting twist, the initially scrapped plans from earlier in the 2000′s to have on-site camping at Voodoo will be realized this year – new to this year’s Ritual is on-site camping. A longtime tradition at the most renowned music festivals around the world, this is the first time it will be offered to Voodoo patrons. Camping options range from general tent camping with basic amenities to a luxurious all-encompassing camping experience. According to Billboard, the soundtrackers of my childhood and slingers of Dookie will headline this year’s ritual. The alt-rock giants are the first announced headliner for this Voodoo Experience -the band previously performed at the festival’s 2004 installment and follow up last year’s Soundgarden early announcement. On Friday night, Tipitina’s Uptown played host to a special benefit for the Tipitina’s Foundation featuring bands and performers from New Orleans and the Baltimore / D.C. for a Treme v. The Wire Battle of the Bands show. For New Orleans it was Stooges Brass Band and Galactic and Lafayette Gilchrist and Anwar Glover & The Backyard Band repped the B/D.C. area.
