Galactic 2011 Winter & Spring Tour

National ambassadors of New Orleans jazz and funk Galactic are about to embark on a lengthy mid-Winter tour and will continue the longtime tradition of routing through New Orleans for a pair of shows on Saturday and Lundi Gras at Tipitina’s Uptown before a ten-day break from the road to catch a breather. After the break, the band embarks for another ambitious month stretch doing a winding trek starting in St. Louis and covering most of the Western half of the country. The best rhythm section in the city will share the stage with a number of big names for one-offs including Mike Gordon (Phish), Trombone Shorty, the Funky Meters and will feature a trio of different opening acts for various legs of the tour including Orgone, The Bridge, and John Brown’s Body. For those of us in New Orleans, to give us our Galactic fix until Mardi Gras, the band has announced that they are close to releasing their 2nd proper live album, recorded live on October 29, 2010 at Tipitinas just a few hours after their set at the Voodoo Experience, properly titled The Other Side of Midnight: Live In New Orleans. The show featured a number of special guests and the recording will undoubtedly be a must-have for any Galactic fan.
