Bonnaroo 2011 Lineup Announced: NOLA Acts Include Dr. John and THE ORIGINAL METERS, Weezy, PHJB

BONNAROOOOOOOO

Now, in it’s tenth year, the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival (a festival co-produced by a few Tulane graduates’ company (Superfly Presents) who got their start booking Jazz Fest late nights) has finally announced it’s highly anticipated 10th Anniversary lineup. Appropriately, for a festival with it’s roots in the Jazz Fest tradition, New Orleans acts have always held a high proportion of festival slots. Notably, Hollygrove hip-hop juggernaut Lil Wayne will be making his debut appearance on the farm (I honestly would be very curious to hear what Weezy has to say about his time in Manchester after he performs). However, the biggest local news is the appearance of Dr. John along with the ORIGINAL members of the Meters (who have only appeared together sporadically since the band’s first dissolution in 1979), the once-in-a-generation performance will feature the supergroup performing Mac’s album Desitively Bonnaroo, on which The Meters originally served as the backing studio band.

This year’s deep and amazingly diverse lineup now sorta makes the Hangout Fest lineup look small-time (which it is not be any means). Plus, Preservation Hall Jazz Band is in the mix once again at a major festival (will also be at SXSW in March). PHJB will be collaborating with the legendary bluegrass Del McCoury Band, a very intriguing clashing between longtime international purveyors of bluegrass and classic New Orleans jazz.

Top to bottom, this is the ultimate Bonnaroo lineup we’ve been waiting for. Great job AC and Superfly, can’t wait til June!
