PHOTOS: Railroad Revival Tour @ Woldenburg Park – 4.27.2011
2,800 miles down at the End of the Line
41 years ago, The Band, Buddy Guy, Grateful Dead, Flying Burrito Brothers and Janis Joplin staged a festival on rails across Canada, that has since been documented in the film Festival Express. Over the course of the last week, traveling exclusively in vintage rail cars, three bands made their journey across the American Southwest intent on “making music, making friends and making history.” The aptly titled Railroad Revival Tour featured Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show playing at six unique outdoor stops along the route, beginning April 21st in Oakland, California and ending here in New Orleans at the riverfront Woldenburg Park. Hopefully much of this special week-long tour has been given similar documentary treatment to the 1970 train tour. For more about this cross-country musical trek, go here to read the tour diary.
