New Orleans Jazz Fest to Webcast 2011 Performers On RollingStone.com

Arcade Fire, Jimmy Buffett, The Neville Brothers, Wilco, Jeff Beck, many others to appear

Listen to Jazz Fest now on WWOZ.

Now that Jazz Fest is underway, the eyes of the music world are focused on New Orleans for the next ten days, but not everyone can make it to town to experience 12 stages of virtually every style of music and the huge array of Louisiana specialty foods. That’s why organizers announced yesterday that highlights from the 2011 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell will be broadcast on RollingStone.com on May 7th and 8th. Following the success of the Coachella web casts on YouTube, this web cast should bring the sounds of the Fairgrounds to a huge international contingent who can’t make it down to the Big Easy.

The 42nd edition of Jazz Fest is scheduled for April 29 through May 8 and celebrates the unique culture and heritage of New Orleans and Louisiana alongside the most popular names in music. The webcast will mirror the Festival as Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band, Arcade Fire and Wilco will be positioned alongside the Neville Brothers, Irma Thomas and Galactic (complete lineup below). Beginning at 6 p.m. CST on both May 7 and 8, the high definition broadcast will include approximately 4 hours each night of performances, interviews, as well as a trip around the Fair Grounds to give viewers a glimpse at some of the elements that make Jazz Fest so special.

Artists confirmed to participate in the webcast so far include:

Arcade Fire
Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band
The Neville Brothers
Wilco
Jeff Beck
Better Than Ezra
Allen Toussaint
Galactic
Irma Thomas
Cowboy Mouth
Marcia Ball

Wesley grew up in coastal Georgia and is a former resident of The Music City and The Big Easy where he helped get LMB NOLA off-the-ground after launching in January 2011. Over the past few years, he has also contributed steadily to JamBase and Relix Magazine. Recently, Hodges moved on to L.A. where Abita Beer is hard to find, costs about $6 if located and impromptu parading in the streets will most likely get you arrested on the spot.

Heard rumors there is some kind of special 3D audio processing that will be used for the webcast, a technology referred to as AstoundSurround? My friend who interviewed the inventor of this technology recently told me about this and that it will significantly enhance the audio for the webcast and it also envelopes all around you such that we will hear the audio as if we were at the concert standing in the crowd. I can’t wait to hear it as I have heard others that were really bad like SRS, QSound among others. Let’s hope this is not another 3D audio gimmick.

    • 3D

Wow, never would think Jazz Fest would be ahead of the game in the technological realm. Sounds cool.

Its not a gimmick..It’s been in developement for 20 years and when I heard it 10 years ago I was floored. It’s come along way since then, Ifirst heard it thru headphones and could not tell the difference between what was on phones and what was actually happening in the room. My college education was in audio engineering and I had never heard anything like it! If u want to learn more google astound sound or genaudio. Also pick up a copy of Aprils Mix Magazine,Genaudio’s studio is on the cover with an article inside.
