VIDEOS: Bootsy Collins & the Funk University @ Tipitina’s – 6/15/11

Bootsy Collins & Funk U @ Tip's - June 15, 2011

Too funky for this Earth

A full photo gallery and words are still to come – so hopefully these extensive videos will suffice until then. Safe to say, they just don’t make ‘em like this anymore. Bootsy Collins & the Funk University is touring in support of his new record Tha Funk Capital of the World, enrolling fans nationwide in his Funk University on a nightly basis and bringin’ the kind of party to town seldom seen anywhere else. His stop at Tipitina’s on the heels of a buzzed-about Bonnaroo set marks a long-awaited return to THE Funk Capital of the World and it was clear from the get-go that even a place largely built on funk music was poorly equipped to handle this kind of three bass attack and the kind of joyful noise Bootsy and Friends were bringing, covering Jimi and Sly and of course bringing a lot of the songs he helped make famous with George Clinton – nearly sending Tip’s into orbit. Outta this world = Stay tuned for more.

About the author

Wesley grew up in coastal Georgia and is a former resident of The Music City and The Big Easy where he helped get LMB NOLA off-the-ground after launching in January 2011. Over the past few years, he has also contributed steadily to JamBase and Relix Magazine. Recently, Hodges moved on to L.A. where Abita Beer is hard to find, costs about $6 if located and impromptu parading in the streets will most likely get you arrested on the spot.

Yo, I know Dre has his own version of Let Me Ride, but that wasn’t a cover of his song. P-Funk has been playing “Swing Down, Sweet Chariot” that since the 70′s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5YG0JQmyG8

Regardless, my brain is melted by the funk last night. Bootsy is a beautiful man. I saw at least a dozen NOLA artists there just to check the show out.

I though it was Mothership Connection. Regardless, that show was off-the-hook. Who did you see as far as NOLA musicians go? I saw Papa Mali, Ian Neville and a guy that has been playing drums with Anders Osborne a bunch recently.

Haha Bootsy covering Dre – so funny..
