Satchmo Summerfest - This Weekend @ the Old U.S. Mint

Satchmo

Satchmo

See below for the Thursday and Friday events going down before the two full days of music gear up this weekend. For the first time at the fest, fans can take advantage of the much-needed addition of Satchmo in the Shade – musical performances under completely tented areas. The new 40-by-80-foot tents will cover stage areas and provide relief from the August heat. Also, don’t miss the free dance lessons offered at the festival this weekend, especially if you could use em. For more on the , go here.

The set is being hailed by experts as “the most complete Louis Armstrong boxed set ever made available”. Havers will be joined by Armstrong archivist Ricky Riccardi to discuss and play clips from the set, along with additional Armstrong re-issues scheduled for release later this year. About the author

Wesley grew up in coastal Georgia and is a former resident of The Music City and The Big Easy where he helped get LMB NOLA off-the-ground after launching in January 2011. Over the past few years, he has also contributed steadily to JamBase and Relix Magazine. Recently, Hodges moved on to L.A. where Abita Beer is hard to find, costs about $6 if located and impromptu parading in the streets will most likely get you arrested on the spot.
