The Original Meters Return Friday Afternoon @ Outside Lands

Funkify the Left Coast

For the 2nd time this summer, the four original members of The Meters will share the stage tomorrow and perform at a Superfly Presents-produced mega-festival (after earlier this summer performing at Bonnaroo with Dr. John and Allen Toussaint). At 2:50 p.m., in San Francisco’s historic Golden Gate Park, the seminal NOLA funk band will take the Land’s End stage, and later that evening, Phish will headline that stage, and I’ve gotta think that a collaboration between the two is not entirely out of the realm of possibilities, one can dream right? Just in case it does happen, Live Music Blog main page editor Justin Ward will be on the grounds at OL to take in both shows and I look forward to hearing his reports from the fest. The Meters are also set to play a SOLD OUT show tonight at The Independent proving that the band remains a hot commodity after several years on the shelf. Other local acts appearing in San Fran this weekend includes the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars and Jazz Fest staples Greyboy All-Stars and Orgone.

Here’s hoping that if I post enough about a New Orleans Meters reunion in 2011 or 2012, it will happen.
