On Sunday night, multi-instrumentalist artista Merrill Garbus (better known to most folks as tUnE-yArDs) came to town for a headlining show at One Eyed Jacks. The unusual nature of Garbus’ anti-status quo approach to constructing pop music is alluring and the growing buzz surrounding her live show is littered with attempts to describe the artist’s hard-to-pin-down musical/performance style – “polyrhythmic,” “textured,” “vibrant,” and “meticulous” are words you’ll see in most reviews – one word you don’t see: “ordinary.”

Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the fact that WTUL has been promoting some killer shows this fall, last week alone the Tulane-based station presented both Explosions in the Sky and tUnE-yArDs. Finally, we’re very excited to have photographer Marc Pagani on board to share his talents with LMB NOLA, this is his first gallery on the site and we’re looking forward to many more in the near future. Continue on below for a nice glimpse of Sunday night’s tUnE-yArDs appearance on Toulouse Street.
