Great Big Shows Upcoming @ Tip’s: Papa Grows Funk, St. Vincent, Fishbone, Dumpsta, New Mastersounds and More

It’s a busy couple weeks at Tipitina’s Uptown, providing ample options for those looking to accent their Voodoo weekend and Halloween festivities with some live music. The big run of shows kicks into gear tonight with the Papa Grows Funk record release party. Tomorrow night, Rebirth Brass Band will be in the house and as usual Bruce Daigrepont’s long-standing Cajun Fais Do Do dance party is going down at 5:30 on Sunday for those looking to cut a rug.

Next week, starting with Wednesday’s highly-anticipated St. Vincent show, the schedule at 501 Napoleon is jam-packed. On Thursday night, Big Sam’s Funky Nation will headline NOLA Brewing’s Shake Yo Can Party where the upstart local brewing company will celebrate the new canning set-up down on Tchoup (selling them now in local stores and you’ll get your first beer free and a koozie just for coming to party. Flow Tribe and Colin Lake will be opening the early show slated to start at 8:30 p.m. This one will be an excellent proper kickoff to anyone just arriving in town for the Voodoo Experience weekend, looking to visit the essential NOLA live music venue and take in some damn fine local bands. On Friday, early-era Lollapalooza ska stalwarts FISHBONE will be joined by NOLA’s best funk band Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk and Pimps of Joytime for what should be one helluva triple bill. If that ain’t enough, on Saturday night there’s “HAUNTED HOUSE OF BOUNCE” featuring BIG EASY BOUNCE BAND
along with Partners-N-Crime And Ricky B, costumes encouraged. Finally, on Friday, November 4th, the British funk force that is New Mastersounds will be throwing down their stylin’ breeze funk to close out a blinding couple of weeks at the big yellow house on the corner.
