The Meters Deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – Spread the Word

After seeing them doin’ their thing once again on Sunday at the Voodoo Experience, it is time to help spread the word. If you frequent this page, thank you, and also you probably are fully aware of The Meters’ importance not only to New Orleans music, but to the world of funk at-large. So here is the mission: The Meters deserve induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. After Dr. John’s long overdue recognition last year and Little Freddie King‘s nomination this this year, it seems like the tides our turning and the Hall is starting to take notice of the legendary bands from the Crescent City deserving of such recognition. If you love The Meters, do your part, like this page here, sign this petition, and tell your mother, your brother, your sister, your grannie and your neighbors, the time has come, let’s help spread the word, ya heard?
Further persuasion:
It doesn’t seem right that one of the progenitors of funk who defined a famous sound that still resonates worldwide and is beloved by so many Hall of Famers themselves (Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, James Brown to name a few) still haven’t been given apt consideration. Not that this kind of recognition is needed to prove to anyone that they are a great and worthy band, but perhaps a Hall nom could serve as the long overdue impetus to make The Meters more of a household name to the casual music fan, instead of just being one the more revered bands in artist and music fanatic circles. They have also always been a legendary live band, something we kind of enjoy here. Spread the word folks!
