The New Orleans Suspects to record live album @ The Maple Leaf this weekend

For two special nights this weekend, The New Orleans Suspects take over the The Maple Leaf to lay down live tracks for their next album, due out this winter. They will no doubt be in polished form, rehearsed and ready to put their on-stage work on wax for the first time, in front of the fans that love ‘em. Symbolically, the Leaf is as ideal as any, as The Suspects’ early days centered around the club in the months after Katrina. It was Reggie Scanlan that brought them together, combining two Wednesday night residencies that featured Jake Eckert, CR Gruver and Willie Green – and finally forming the group in 2009. For Scanlan, the longtime Radiators bassist, The New Orleans Suspects’ has been a chance to breathe new life into his work, and he found himself going full time with the Suspects’ just days after the Rads called it quit last Summer. The same goes for Willie Green, who has found a new home among peers, as the venerable Neville Brothers have slowed down their days on the road.
The Leaf should be rocking for these two gigs, and it is a pretty rare opportunity to get to witness a band make an album – my recommendation to you is to get out there and enjoy in a little bit of New Orleans music history…
