PREVIEW: Antibalas @ Tipitina’s 10/9/12

Brooklyn’s thunderous afro-beat orchestra aptly known as Antibalas (Spanish for “Bulletproof”) are bringing their “vault of esoteric sounds and knowledge” to Napoleon Avenue tonight on a packed evening for music in the city. Antibalas — Afrobeat’s premier second-wave ensemble — fresh off the release of their fifth full-length album and on the road in support (see Spotify link below to listen) will be hitting the stage just after the Free Agents Brass Band finishes up their opening set around 10:00pm. LMB guru Wes Hodges got a chance to see the Antibalas gang at Outside Lands in August, and they placed a strong Top 5 finish in his favorite sets of the weekend, amid some stiff competition. Go catch some rats!
