We here at LMB Nola have been huge, nay ENORMOUS, fans of Colorado-grown jamtronica duo Big Gigantic ever since they dropped their brief but mind-shattering debut Wide Awake in 2009. (Speaking solely for myself, Big G show count is in the double-digits and song “Polarized” was my morning alarm for about six months in ’09 if that’s any indication.) And why all the gushy enthusiasm you may rightly ask? It’s quite simple: the dynamic double dose of organic drumbeats radiating from sticks man Jeremy Salken and the simultaneously cold fusion-powered saxophone stylings of one Dominic Lalli never fail to reach a level of creative critical mass that raises the audience to a state of system overload. This Friday night represents a unique opportunity to see a festival-headlining, rave-inducing set up-close and personal during Fall 2012′s aptly-named Uprising Tour, following the release of new album Nocturnal (which can be downloaded FO’ FREE) – an album which reached #2 on the iTunes electronic charts despite being available for free download (DOWNLOAD IT). Damn impressive and a credit to Big Gigantic’s standout originality within a genre that is not always characterized by such innovative reverse-engineering of fundamental musical instrumentation.
I have nothing but the highest regard for their explosive live shows, which effectively integrate their distinctively funky performing/mixing talents with the requisite visual foreplay of a multi-media/light show that arouses without overshadowing the actual jam. No small wonder Big Gigantic dominated Friday late-night at Bonnaroo this summer and induced a wet and wild storm surge during the Saturday downpour at ACL last month. So start off your weekend right – rise up and melt face this Friday night with a HUGE show at the HoB.
